False Gods Don't Remember

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The culture and the world can convince us and deceive us. I was listening to a podcast the other day that made me once again realize how things in the world do not change. We are constantly in a battle against the gods of this world just as the Israelites in the wilderness, or the Israelites who were living in Jerusalem. They would turn from the true Triune God and worship the gods of the world. They would forget what God called them to do and would neglect their worship life.

The same happens to us today. Our world beckons us to worship and sacrifice to the gods of the world. We hear from our culture: “Post this to show you support us and our cause or else you are against us. Make the sacrifice. Sports at the same time of church – choose one. Make the sacrifice. It is summer and you need a break. Putting self-care first is more important than church or Bible study. Make the sacrifice.”

When the gods of this world attack us just like we read in the Bible, it is fitting to hear the same words spoken to God’s people. Remember the Lord your God. Moses repeats it multiple times (Deuteronomy 8). Remember the Lord your God. The major prophets speak similar words (Isaiah 46 and Jeremiah 51). Remember the Lord your God because He has remembered us.

“He remembers His covenant forever, the word that He commanded, for a thousand generations” (Psalm 105:8).

God remembers His covenant, the same covenant that applies to us. God remembers us even when we have turned away. God remembers us in the midst of our busy lives. God remembers His promise of eternal life and forgiveness through His Son.

Let us remember the Lord and all His wonderful deeds and promises!
